FAQs
Q: What is Low Level Laser (LLLT) Therapy and how does it work?
A: Low Level Laser Therapy is the application of a “cold” pure laser to assist you with smoking cessation, weight loss and muscle and joint pain. The laser is applied to various points throughout your hands, face and head which trigger neurotransmitters to release natural levels of endorphins (the bodies stress hormone). These endorphins have been manipulated by smokers to be released only when they smoke. LaserIntervention and Wellness helps to release these hormones in amounts that will get you through the initial physical deprivation stage when feelings of stress and nervousness are at their high. Two boosters are offered within six months if anxiety and stressful feelings still exist. After five days large amounts of nicotine will no longer be present in your body and unpleasant physical feelings will cease. For past client testimonials, please click here
Q1. Thermal versus Low Intensity Laser Therapy
A: High power or thermal lasers can produce a substantial amount of heat. This destructive potential makes high power laser a key component in industrial applications such as cutting and welding. Because thermal laser combines power and precision, it also has many beneficial uses in medical applications.
Unlike thermal lasers, the low intensity laser beam is “soft power” and does not produce heat. Red and infra-red lasers with power outputs in the range from 10-250 mW belong in this category.
Low intensity laser energy initiates and stimulates many beneficial physiological processes within the cell. These include cell metabolism, membrane permeability, etc. In essence it promotes the healing of damaged cells which makes it applicable in the therapy of many pathologies. Moreover, it is non-destructive with regard to the target tissue.
Q2. What type of Low Level Laser Device does LaserIntervention & Wellness use?
A: At LaserIntervention & Wellness we use the BioFlex . A highly sophisticated therapeutic device that combines the potential benefits of low intensity laser with superluminous diodes for the effective treatment of many medical disorders. Developed and engineered by Meditec, BioFlex represents the decade’s most significant technological advancement in low intensity laser therapy.
Q3. How does Low Level Laser Therapy compare with other conventional treatments?
A: For many years, rehabilitation therapies – including ultrasound, interferential current, TENS, etc. have been used extensively throughout the world to treat pain and stimulate the healing process. Unlike LLLT, the healing effects of these treatments have been disappointing as they only modulate symptoms. In contrast, LLLT is able to influence the pathology directly at the cellular level, resulting in therapeutic benefits that are more profound and generally curative. At best, alternative therapies act as counter-irritants, creating a transient increase in circulation and the release of endorphins, providing only temporary symptomatic relief.
Q4. Where is LLLT using the Bioflex in use today?
A: Across Canada, the United States, Europe, South America and Asia, BioFlex is being used by an increasing number of chiropractors, physiotherapists and physicians. In the 12 years that the therapy has been available, more than 100,000 patients have received successful treatment with the BioFlex and its predecessor units.
The Toronto Raptors, The Toronto Maple Leafs as well as the Toronto Blue Jays, the Miami Heat, the Canadian National Ballet Company along with many other high performance organizations utilize the technology as the basic treatment platform for their athletic injuries.
In addition, many athletes from the world of golf, hockey and tennis benefit from the effects of the therapy.
Q5. Where has clinical research on BioFlex been conducted?
A: Several controlled studies have been conducted since 1996 using the BioFlex Professional System. Two of these involved experimental models of Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS) and Rheumatoid Arthritis. The results of both studies showed that BioFlex produced significant, positive effects on these disorders. A synopsis of these studies is available. Meditech International has embarked on an extensive program of beta testing of the BioFlex user protocols. In January, 1997, two BioFlex Professional Systems were placed in beta sites, one at the University of Toronto in a teaching hospital and one at the University of Ulster. Several additional research units were utilized in private clinics. Results from these centres have indicated that the benefits derived were both positive and often dramatic.
Q6. What regulatory approvals does BioFlex have?
A: BioFlex has been cleared by the FDA, Health Canada. The CE mark of approval has also been obtained and the manufacturing standards of UL and ISO have been met.
Q7. Is laser therapy safe?
A: Yes, laser therapy is completely safe! Laser therapy is non-invasive and drug-free. It has been widely used internationally for over 30 years. The laser used at our laser centre is a low-level or “soft” laser; it is as harmless as the rays off a light bulb. For testimonials on our laser therapy treatments, click here.
Q8. Will it hurt?
A: No, on the contrary you will actually be more relaxed and at ease due to the laser releasing natural endorphins throughout your body.
Q9. If I Quit Smoking with LLLT Will I gain weight?
